You probably feel a bit like a ninja when you can type just "m casablanca" to be redirected to IMDb's movie page. It has definitely saved much time that would otherwise be taken up by clicking and navigating through lists of search results.

Your Wikipedia example reminds me that I never posted a Wikipedia shortcut. WP has a "special search" URL that helps in keyword searches. With a single URL, it can automatically perform a search and either 1) show a set of results (if necessary) or 2) take you directly to the Wikipedia entry. This is particularly useful because you can use a single command to search the "haystack" as well as be directed to the "needle" if it can be automatically sorted out.

An example:

The Wikipedia special search URL is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

- If I type a term that is not the title of an article, WP will do a keyword search: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

- If I type a term that is ambiguous, WP will show me matching (or related) entries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

- And, finally, if I send it a term that closely matches an article, WP will automatically take me to the article page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Re: Ubiquity 0.01

I love the "add a keyword to this search" feature in FF! I've been using for a few years, and my dependence is so heavy that I look stupid when I use someone elses computer: I type "wp some-search-query" into the address bar (wp is for wikipedia) and fail hard. ;)
